Giving is an important part of Christian discipleship. Throughout Scripture, we are encouraged to honour God with what He has entrusted to us, recognising that everything we have ultimately comes from Him. Giving is an act of worship, gratitude and faith, and it enables the Church to share the gospel, support ministry and serve those in need.

Giving is an act of worship, gratitude and faith, and it enables the Church to share the gospel, support ministry and serve those in need.The Bible speaks about both tithing and giving, and while they are closely connected, they are not identical. A tithe means giving a tenth (10%) of our income to God. Tithing is an established biblical principle of honouring God with the first and best of what we receive (Malachi 3:10; Proverbs 3:9). Giving, however, extends beyond the tithe. Scripture encourages us to give generously, willingly and cheerfully according to what God has placed on our hearts and what we are able to give (2 Corinthians 9:6–8).The Bible also uses the principle of sowing and reaping to help us understand the impact of generosity. Paul writes that “whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously” (2 Corinthians 9:6). When we give, we are sowing into the purposes of God—believing that He can use what we place in His hands to bring blessing, growth and fruitfulness. This is not about giving to get rich or trying to manipulate God; rather, it is about faithfully sowing with a generous heart and trusting God with the results.Tithing can provide a consistent foundation for our financial worship, while additional giving allows us to respond to particular needs, opportunities and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Our giving should never be motivated by guilt or pressure, but should flow from love, gratitude, faith and trust in God.
